Lets be honest , the first half of summer TV sucks!!! Everything ends, your left with crappy reality shows or random new shows that the networks are hoping might do something. The second half of the summer however is great , You got big premieres and then its not long till Fall TV starts.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 256px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUE7JM_wlYygybbf-pSZZxkkvmtVeg5unYkYqm8T2smQAI1QIQUsfRWrqNDHIc4ZqwOB4kX7lwuXItDbana2-h04t3mf4n7RhxVkelRVx_dapVOqgX8283fHComi3zL_Yh9PfXBQ3PNa9D/s320/Breaking-Bad-Wallpaper-11.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5615919695663094306" />

Without a doubt the No.1 Summer Premiere that i have been waiting for is Breaking Bad Season 4. Did Jessie kill Gail???? (i hope so) Did the Chicken Man have Walter killed? THe only thing i can think about is the chilling end to last season with Jessie standing in the doorway pointing a gun at Gail, realizing he doesnt want to kill him , but basically its Gail or He and Walter.
It's situations like that, that make me love Breaking Bad. Its such a morally challenging show , How far will you go to get what you want and protect the ones you love??? Thats the world Walter White finds himself in , Here is a guy who was a mild mannered boring Chemistry Teacher in season 1 , now with Season 4 getting set to open he is fighting for his life as a meth chemist for a drug kingpin. Walter has killed people, watched people die and will definitely probably have to do more of the same.
The writing on Breaking Bad is spectacular , Acting is amazing , its just very very well done. According to Show Creator Vince Gilligan the show will end after Season 5, So two seasons left to end this story. I just dont see this one having a happy ending , i think it has to end with Walter dead either at the hands of Drug Kingpins or by a cancer relapse , he may or not have been able to take care of his family and its 50/50 whether Jason makes it or not. All i know is i will be there every step of the way with Mr.White for the ride!!!!

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6Gg25EqdjrQZnKnRzUqB_G0Jt3XfTqCOmffO_Z0vQRqVBbWkYBiIEs9BhqqIbw6rO2Nw3QuGymclVhzMP58Qgpn9K1ljeavitK17YNfn3DcT81phxH0g-hbI6KFAJAswk4WRpffxRqfU0/s320/first-promo-for-entourage-season-8-debuted.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5615922328479283282" />

Next would be the final season of Entourage, now wait NO i am not trying to put Entourage in the same class as Breaking Bad , Entourage is definitely more of a guilty pleasure type show. It does have some great acting in it by certain people, Ari Gold (jeremy Piven) is a great character but other than him the best thing Entourage delivers is a inside look at hollywood and a guy fantasy of what it would be like to be super rich with your buddies. There are some funny moments of crude-guy humor. Entourage is a show i have been in on from the beginning and will see through to the end and part of me will definitely be sad to see it go.

Others im looking forward to unfortunately wont be coming on till late august- earlly September when Fall Tv gets kicking again.
Sons of Anarchy Season 4- This is a new love but one im definitely all in now. Cant wait to see what Jax and the boys in Charming have waiting for them when they get out of Jail.

Dexter Season 6- Now there are Dexter haters out there now including my boy who is on this very blog. I am the first to admit the Season Finale to Season 5 sucked Donkey Balls. It was the worst season finale of the 5. With that being said I have been in on Dexter from the beginning and it has been one of the top shows on tv consistently from the beginning. THere is a silver lining to Dexter , they finally started to hint at what the eventual end of the show will be , the ultimate confrontation when who Dexter truly is gets revealed to Deb and what she chooses to do. Will she be Harry and try to embrace it , or will she Capture or kill her murdering brother??? I personally believe that the sixth season could be it , they might could squeeze a seventh but i dont know , either way i look for it to rebound this year and will not give up on Mr. Morgan.
I believe my boy Dearing and i plan to either relaunch this blog or get a new one going and be a little more active in bloggin once our shows come back on. It should give us a little more material for you the reader of the media hero.

Big Dawghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03457664978801539755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5847537473725995738.post-46909696697071289242011-03-15T19:20:00.000-07:002011-03-15T20:37:49.729-07:00THE FAB FIVE<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 233px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0CiJ6AbkF7zRUxkXbq3iAJh6xaOygqG2nlDRpL2oYzE6q6AGIhnUAkPbePbgrGWE7F6Tbb6WHiL5doetum-sRwxve9ip0Yw6HFETNJW547K1bH_pd92OE4Y3pCs5PP6iB7MY61gAJzeoC/s400/fabfive_span.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5584501795370565442" />
I know , I know this the Media Hero but i gotta touch the sports page a documentary film sparked this so HEY, it qualifies.
The Fab Five were a group of freshman baskettball recruits at the University of Michigan in the early 1990's. They were all together for 2 years , and went to national title games losing both. The fab five were a polarizing group who had a us against the world mentality. The documentary shows the crazy fanatical college fan, really asks the question should college players be paid? and were the fab five a bunch of thugs?
Before i get into the meet of the documentary i wanna talk about my interest in the fab five. These guys more or less opened my eyes to college basketball, I knew it existed previous to them , but they were the first team that ever peaked my interest and caused me to be a fan of college hoops. I was a massive fan of Michigan hoops , even going so far as stealing my older brother's michigan gear , wearing it to school and putting it back in his closet when i got home.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 270px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOYbACZEQ3079wC3HKYf71UP1Gg_vehEK5_zzpj9dDM_1PLFChBvNenZed_2CnTGLF5ijN89ZGlluBrzbzRfL4kkpGAtE46xyUxW8yIp0taXnOhTOYXWtjuuS2qlctMLgnoeqnT-dQJ2ct/s400/407814148_b752a50731.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5584498338766831250" />
Chris Webber,Juwan Howard, Jalen Rose ,Jimmy King and Ray Jackson made up the Fab five. They all committed to Michigan and are considered to be one of the greatest recruiting classes of all time, all five were in the top 50 in the nation , which is something unheard of in baskettball. They stepped on campus and begin to have a big influence on college sports. They brought the "Michael Jordan look" to ncaa hoops , that being getting away from the short shorts of the 80's and going to the baggy shorts that are so popular now. As freshman they made there way through the tournament and came up just a little short against Duke in the National Title game.
Beyond just general interest because I was a big Fab Five fan growing up , there were two fascinating things that came out in this documentary. The first being the financial impact these guys had on the Univeristy of Michigan. They showed a chart showing that in the couple of previous years to there arrival Michigan made 1.5 dollars in merchandise and gear sold. In the following two years the number went up to 10.5 MILLION DOLLARS!!! This is a complete and total different argument , but that to me makes a case that College athletes should be paid.
THe second thing was the incredible amount of racism this group faced from fans. The crazy thing about that is alot of it wasnt from other schools , it was from Michigan alums and boosters. People who didnt like the fact here was group of black guys who played with a swagger and had an attitude. They showed a bunch of letters that were sent to both Coach Steve Fisher and the players themselves that had profanity laced racist tirades including calling the guys the "n" word. I just thought that was truly shocking here your team is a National Power and your sending offensive letters out to your team. Then of course we have the emphamis TIMEOUT.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 341px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQJWzRINq1IxVa3L8G-UePP52NmPbcmeee-Crk9GfkXoGsGXQEDoEiXLtbVX2gLE3Gt08FsVnwnI65HrSmCNMoN8D_ylyENMq7XKc31jIqgclyhgP0LM14wPZHnVX3hljN4ExX88WSZ76K/s400/No_Timeouts_Left_Chris.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5584512721492981154" />

As i said earlier the fab five made two straight title games the second loss ended in spectacular fashion. So the crew roles into the 92 title game the odds on favorite against North Carolina. Michigan is down 2 at the end of the game , they have no timeouts, Chris Webber gets the ball , walks (ref's dont call it) dribbles up the floor and calls a timeout. Well when you dont have a timeout and call one , it results in a techincal foul. Michigan went on to lose , Webber went onto the NBA and the fab five was no more. The crazy thing about this is that 20 years later all five guys remain friends and they dont speak about it. Chris Webber has never spoken about it. Dont get me wrong I would be devastated by that , but Never speaking about it seems really crazy to me.
A few years later after the guys were in the NBA or in Jimmy and Ray's case being in the buisness world it came out that there were some under the table things at Michigan. It came out that Chris received in the neighborhood of 300,000 dollars from a booster. Hmmm maybe thats why he decided Michigan over Duke?? The booster gave Jalen money as well but not near as much as Chris. Chris plead guilty to perjury chargers for lying to a grand jury. Michigan went under a 10 year ban of not recognizing that Chris Webber was a part of the University.
The Fab Five did leave a legacy , Uniforms in College basketball , Black Socks , They were the beginning of UnderClassmen making an impact in College Basketball. This documentary was shot from a very pro Fab Five perspective, they called themselves "Revolutionary" , now i was a big fan , still am but i cant agree with this. I think you have to win a National Title to boast like these guys do. The Fab Five are defintiely infamous , and will be remembered but revolutionary??? I dont think so. Nonetheless it was another masterful documentary in the ESPN 30 for 30 Franchise and a must watch for Sports fan in my opinnion.Big Dawghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03457664978801539755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5847537473725995738.post-17006039050513963252011-02-17T06:40:00.000-08:002011-02-17T08:20:21.021-08:00That was EPIC... now what?So after a week without 'church', the Big Dawg and myself called everyone (Blake, Caty and I) to the table last night to knock out the rest of Season 3 of Sons of Anarchy. We had three episodes to go and the clock was already at about 9 oclock when we fired the first one up. It was inevitably going to be a late night. The episodes flew by and the frustration and confusion grew quickly in me. I thought I had an idea to how this season was going to conclude based on what I saw and I was almost completely right. If you have not gotten to the finale of season three PLEASE click the following link and don't read this post until you are finished watching the season... Spoilers are coming.

Full Episodes of Sons

Ok... seriously stop reading if you haven't already seen the finale. I don't want to be the one that ruins the greatness for you.

So we get to the finale with a feeling of complete and utter chaos in my opinion for the club. Jax is a borderline rat, Opie is on the verge of re-marriage to a porn star, bail hearings are looming, Gemma is still on the run, and oh yeah Tara has been rescued BUT she is preggers. The build up from some friends that had already been through season 3 worried me about this finale. Season 2 was some of the better television I had seen and as we know from other shows I love (cough cough Dexter) there is always the potential for complete let down after a much hyped and built up finale.

There is so much I can say about this episode but I don't want to get into deep detail. We learned ever further that Stahl is a cold hearted bitch. She would do anything to keep her nose clean and become the "big time" ATF agent she wants to be... even if it means offing her lesbian lover. Gemma is willing to go to jail forever to save her son from what could happen if he does become the rat. Tara is diving even further into her role as Jax's Old Lady. Tig and Cosik are fighting over a damn dog (Sutter please revisit this next season!). There is so MUCH going on and the club is basically broke.

Then the Russians enter and are willing to sell Jimmy to the Sons for 2 mil. Chucky the Maturbator gets some fake scrilla and makes it happen. This is where all hell breaks loose. The show has focused for about 6 episodes on how Jax's is 'in bed with the devil' Agent Stahl. Well he signs over his information and statement to her and she then rats on him to his club starting an uproar in front of the shop. Long story short... the club was in on Jax working with Stahl all along and Unser joins up as his last hoorah in Charming as chief and tricks Stahl into telling her agents to leave. Piney and the boys show up. Chibs gives Jimmy an Italian Smile and a knife in the chest, Opie gives Stahl the "Donna Treatment". The Boys rip up Jax's deal with Stahl that outs the IRA as gun runners, but keep the shortened jail time clause. Jax and all the boys laugh it up when they know everything is cool.

Can I just officially shift my allegiance in the club over from Jax to Opie? I have been wavering alittle between the two for two season now but after the Stahl vs. Opie match at the end of the last episode and the complete and utter calmness he shows before he blows her head off... Opie is the man.

Next season has ALOT of potential. Tara knows how John Teller died now, The Russians are pissed, Hale is the new mayor, and the sheriffs run Charming... not to mention the majority of the club is in jail from anywhere from 14 months to 3 years.

I am ready for Season 4 and it is so damn far away!

So here I sit, Medio Hero, in the same predicament I wrote about 3 months ago. This time I am pleased with the finale of the show I just watched... unlike Dexter (still bitter can't you tell)... and I have 4 months till Breaking Bad comes back... I have 4 months till my wedding... and 6 months till Sons and Dexter come back on. I need something to fill my time. The Big Dawg suggests The Shield. I am going to do a run through of Spartacus for sure then probably jump on The Shield.

For those fo you still wondering... I was up till almost 1 last night thinking about the finale and getting ready for work today... woke up at 545. Life is tough in a MC sometimes.

JDJ.D.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17085809238707826974noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5847537473725995738.post-70024121494240301612011-02-16T13:45:00.001-08:002011-02-16T14:16:31.685-08:00The Ricky Gervais Show<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 162px; height: 172px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFBTdvNC5YwwUFt8kDhClOy8z4Yv_v44ZjbElC2y68owPQ1n0XK22jIaDKkr8Wj6kHn6InateavyrO_wIyYmB4Ws8uSUW8NgylMqfyfHLf2h9KxzowucNLFnHr-cjArBghAVKdtU7bl0x8/s400/Ricky+Gervais+Show.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5574407020481190242" />

There has been alot of posts about TV shows here , and here is another one. Ive got another show rocketing up my favorite lists , The Ricky Gervais Show on HBO. In its inception it was a podcast with Ricky Gervais , Stephen Merchant, Karl Pilkington, now it is an Animated 30 minutes eries for HBO.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQ6irJaEgAp7lfRYvXpuFajkrp3kVQx8vhqimrdvH5atVyJ6wWwGLv3vg7owbcxms5_jcbkQPJUb9R6RlPWjz6qgI4W8Z-eYXCTEq762BPCVppyND9NhIVIaawHYDMivtWE-mrBJNVqB8X/s200/Ricky+G.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5574407898153829602" />
The show's namesake and most famous star is Ricky Gervais, Ricky who starred as David Brent in The Original Office in England. Ricky is also the exec producer of the American Office , has starred in multiple movies and done numerous standup specials. Ricky is known most notably right now for his quite abrasive run hosting The Golden Globes.I thought he was hilarious , but there is no doubt he left a bad taste in alot of people's mouths.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCo_dRJ2QAkpsi4pKJ92YL0OcU-kUDz7veeT2qLaBqTrhoOfRXek1Kng9ZqMkmvQsdCf1P84th2f1F8J-xGfvswNZp0_itr6d-epk1lOKOB4k8ZL5MV2VB7TI48fFuMvW1Yx0GlUSNwa4N/s200/Stephen+Merchant.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5574408832033567170" />
Stephen Merchant is the man behind the man when it comes to Ricky Gervais. Steven is Ricky's close friend co writer and co-creator on most everything Ricky is involved in. Steve can be seen without Ricky in the upcoming Farrelly Brothers movie Hall pass.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 112px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPnjZc7ZZP73wOvNLBaBnXFkvCdsbzogW39B_ArNihL_VPj-BJgPuvHcG0n_RNk8eyPtS3K9DgqGUcQ5gThjAdZqqW9bv3bBzE7NFUpK41IhvTODkV7uXzgs-fDlsyNUd5_0Tk1S3QC3mw/s200/karl+pilkington.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5574409975891624258" />
The Star of this show is undoubtebly Karl Pilkington , Karl is not an actor or comedian(at least on purpose) he was a radio producer that Stephen and Ricky met when they had a show on british radio. Karl is one of a kind and has very unique opinions on everything. Karl is the source of most of the comedy in the show.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 158px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggkG7jJ7imHNWFgtvXQk3dljYSiCUOEIjx_CsPHKBHMuHGzunqi0mFTtP_gbPs6apqftr4Zp82PFbDlHe_0umkL7dOH8SpaHx7nHWYwlaKqVuqL7ZX6y7kYZ7XitXsdtwE-5vc24KyPEVU/s320/rickygervaishbo.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5574410841956279186" />
The show is real basic , being taken straight from there podcast , its an animated show with Ricky, Steve and Karl sitting around a table and talking, what you do when doing a podcast. They discuss different scenarios and stories and there are animated cartoons that follow. The Show to me really boils down to 2 elements Karl offering his unique and most of the time Crazy opinions , or stories. Then there are Steve and Ricky's reactions which usually is Ricky laughing uncontrollably , telling Karl he is an idiot , calling Karl's story "bollucks" (the british word for balls) or telling Karl "Don't talk S**T!) accusing him of lying.
An example of Karl would be Karl explaining how he came up with a good idea for a movie on the spot saying " if you just talk i find that your mouth comes out with stuff" If you use your brain sometimes it doesnt happen just keep talking and eventually your brain will come out with stuff. Karl also writes poetry on the last episode he debuted a poem of

It would be spiteful
to put jellyfish
in a trifle.

I know its hard to justify the humor in this show by writing about it , but i think its absolutely hilarious the combination of Karl's off the wall opinions and stories and Ricky calling him out and laughing hysterically is a great oombo. I dont know anyone else who watches this but me , I must get the word out!Big Dawghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03457664978801539755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5847537473725995738.post-50018716361532161082011-02-08T11:46:00.000-08:002011-02-08T15:26:10.250-08:00TOP 5Let me throw this out there right from the start : Im not saying these are the 5 best shows to ever hit Television. These are my 5 favorite shows , the shows that have sucked me in the most and left me at the edge of my seat waiting more.

When thinking about this I found a couple of constants among each show. The first one being there all drama's , that doesn't mean i dont have love or respect for the sitcom but it is what it is. The second thing was every show revolves around a Central Character who is a very conflicted person , often times struggling with juggling a secret life. They often times tug that line between Anti-Hero (meaning bad guy that you still root for) or what often times they really are a Criminal and sometimes a psychopath!

ON TO THE LIST

No. 1

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 212px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0ZTPvWi0sAfBoFNr4L3VVDdi7iPTH589PogNUyUM7dY3rtWkR1jwF04TlvYeqKTcHLmvJrOGmBb-Vb3vTmo9YrRjsgg_FWSQswtjz71QLpMOTDdFf4qg6RjgskftX1AAUbAPHIfqVyEJw/s320/TheShield.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5571411062909481442" />
The Shield- This was a landmark show in a number of ways but mostly it was one of if not the first show to tote that line of being a show worthy of being on HBO but they did just enough to pass to be on cable.
The Shield is based around the fictional Farmington Division of the LA Police Department and Detective Vic Mackey played by the great Michael Chiklis. Vic Mackey personifies the Anti-Hero , in the very first episode of this 7 Season long Drama , Mackey shoots a fellow cop and kills him. This sets the tone for a man who stops at nothing to make busts as a cop , or protect his friends and family. Vic faces moral crossroads and usually always chooses the easy way or the criminal way out.THe duality of his character though often times showed him to be a very loving father who cared greatly for his kids. The Shield is also a show that i think avoided the peaks and calley's that hit most television shows. The Shield got constantly better as the show grew older and evolved. The Shield Series Finale is my favorite finale episode and ending to a Television show ever.The Shield was the cornerstone of the FX Network and played a significant role it getting to where it is now. To me the Shield is the greatest Cop show in Television History.

No. 2

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 160px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsfPX2ImOI5ii7yeEsoEHeeX3cDwTIDEYWSHkpdgqpgZtHPKxRP_FrZx_156oxU_XTTLpYGigZA0_PArBuP7DxygvmCJdQL3EVhHUYL9sTPe2ngHOlhvb3jxs_U1Y-pEv0HCMsQRtexqsH/s200/sopranos-poster-c12007091.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5571413823809941330" />
The Soprano's
Another Landmark show for Television history , the first of its kind and the show that put HBO's making Television shows on the map. The Soprano's centers around a New Jersey family both in the normal sense and a Crime Family. The lead character is the father Tony Soprano who is balancing his life as the head of a New Jersey crime family , with his life of being a husband and father of two kids. Like Mackey in the Shield , Tony Soprano often times found himself at a moral crossroads , balancing the criminal , do anything at any cost part of his mind , with his loyalty to his family.
In its run The Soprano's hit peaks and valleys but was always strong , held up by its fantastic cast and there great acting. The two main characters of the show James Gandolfini and Edie Falco (Tony and Carmella Soprano) were almost always nominated for awards and most times one them. The only complaint that could be made is that Show creator David Chase would put in a crazy off the wall episode in every season but all in all The Soprano's defnitely has its place in television history.

No. 3

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 117px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_16iLymXiqGr8ibFi8XMmU-b6uA6TOJpKbQI_DFGkpScexC7_uTYurYA9T1fEXhcKbZNymLkIAfii-iYB5OUy9Pgg_8XImwPSZaOCQ11y5OZZ4vK_CNTgk-PIcWsUfJ-kZEYAhCzmyfZU/s200/breaking+bad.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5571418219810173378" />

This is a shared favorite between me and the Media Hero. Breaking Bad the story of Walter white aka Heisenburg, a Chemistry Teacher, Genius,Cancer Patient, Father and Drug Kingpin.
This show is quickly rising up my list and could be no.1 by the time it completes its run on TV. The AMC Drama is set around Walter White and his family and his ventures into the world of Crystal Meth cooking and distrubiting , Initially because he needed a way to leave his family some money behind when he thought he was dying from cancer. Walter and his partner and former student Jessie make a the best meth known to man! As the lead charcters in the other shows did , they often find themselves in the situations where they have to make decisions they know is wrong , but it is best for them to keep doing what there doing.
Breaking Bad was created by Vince Gilligan , its filmed on a fairly low budget in Alberquerque, New Mexico. I can honestly say that there is not a show that sucks me in and keeps me totally engulfed and interested in an episode like BB. It is an 45 minutes of tenseness every week and i cant wait it for to return for Season 4.

# 4

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 205px; height: 246px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiehsVasVTzBcWowPiHtp0n5NnjyxYmAijuZPMeKPRzCH_EyfhOJsQX5Wy3YMgCYVzR8QT9mjFzPjah41qKB-gP5T5n2ZfzKMBXQIFDu2U_eUsKCShlyCj4GWRJQrPe1draH6RVJWWX3HaO/s320/dexter.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5571421506899935746" />

Dexter- Dexter is a Showtime drama starring Michael C Hall. It centers around Dexter Morgan a Blood Spatter Analyst for the Miami PD who moonlights as a serial killer. Ohh but wait!!! There's a twist he only kills people who kill people, he is a good guy serial killer, if there is such a thing??
This is another show that the Media Hero and I share a fondness for. Dexter hit a serious valley this year , but before this year had its finest year. They have a knack for finding fantastic season long guest stars every year , and its needed other than Michael C Hall is who is awesome , the rest of the cast kind of struggles. Although Dexter's sister Deb does touch the comedy base with some random combinations of cuss words. Dexter still takes its place on this list , but without a rebound in its sixth season , its gonna be knocked off.

#5

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 194px; height: 259px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWpB6jokaqQKr-GlmWA0MOMF_12qLNhuhTJU75gMqtsVfKPSAKZxmI3bSxktDoHY-X0DEq5zwllnzmtKwiwfcss8G5_cnpMnXakPvzK4pfAGci14GTyce4-_ldsmA1v8-H6sOLRAyyGenE/s320/24.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5571436840547685378" />

24- Now let me set the record straight here , 24 is not in the stratosphere of The Shield or The Sopranos. 24 is more of what you might call a guilty pleasure , is it landbreaking TV?? No probably not. What 24 was able to do , was master the art of edge of your seat television, what i mean by that , is 24 is a non-stop adrenaline rush for the season , you never know who is gonna die , who is gonna blow up , who is turn out to be an undercover terrorist. Anchored by Keifer Sutherland as the Super Government Agent Jack Bauer a man who can die , be brought back to life and kill someone 30 seconds later. He to struggles with doing what he deems neccesary to complete his missions , whether that means harming himself , or others around him , He has killed partners , lost his wife , killed his father , Jack is the definition of a Patriot!!! Is 24 a great Television show , thats debatable is it a easy show to do get addidcted to absolutely!!!!!

Narrowly missing the list

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 186px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVbTYi63xnlT6ynuLkflhaAlfFeLJHoC9sFRrIgNxovmHBOCfJP84cO2xjz7HdLOqMjUAntecQwT5lh8j7TKIVlNTwQUEnJi3ZsZbd5sS36kwYRlMHRrXhFjtOrOE5XboYztil6JsgtzdZ/s320/Sons.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5571438829880530098" />

Sons of Anarchy- Not gonna go into a long explanation here since I just blogged about it. Sons is quickly working its way up my list and if I do this list again , it will most likely have passed 24 and possibly Dexter. I have heard however it is very slow moving.

Boardwalk Empire- I started this but didnt finish the first season , Its an HBO drama that has Martin Scorsese attached , two big things to make you watch. Media Hero Here...

First off I would like to welcome The Big Dawg to Media Hero. As I am sure you have noticed I suck something awful at this whole posting blogs thing and I am hoping his presence will help boost me to post more. He will be posting often as well I assume. But as many of you know "This may sound cocky but I used to work in TV" so The Big Dawg should have known when I started talking about this show that it would be an instant classic.

Since Big Dawg stole my thunder and posted about this series before the namesake of the website had the opportunity, I won't waste anyone's time with details about individuals in the show or information about the writers. I will just spend a few minutes of your day talking about my favorite characters and a few aspects about the show that really got me interested when I started watching. I, like the Big Dawg, had heard great things about this show from so many different people ranging from close friends to radio guys that talk about their Tivo all the time. So since I am the person that has to watch everything I DVR, I set up my DVR to record the entire season 3 of SOA knowing that I would be forced to watch the first two seasons before I watched 3. I bought season 1... knocked it out in three days... Then during a freak ice storm/gift from God, I bought and watched Season 2 in about 19 hours. Addicted. Plain and Simple.

Who do I identify with the most in this series:

At first I would have started out with Jax but after two plus seasons, by far my favorite character is Opie. He is the quiet yet strong best friend of Jax. For those that are watching the show and think he looks familiar... He is definitely the guy from Remember The Titans (Gerry Bertier). He is a father of two young children and he struggles mightily with the balance of being a single father and a club member. His character has gone from almost an outsider when he came out of jail to what I see as one of the more powerful members in the club. His influence is all over almost every decision Clay and Jax make.

After a long debate with the four or five people that are seriously addicted to this show that I hang out with, it has been determined that as much as I want to be Opie in our MC we plan on starting, I am not Opie. I am Tig, the speak first, think later smart ass ex Marine. I can handle that because even though I hated him for his role in the ending of Season 1. Tig has proved himself with some solid one liners and also he is simply a hardass. Tig and Clay have one of the type of friendships that only certain people can understand. So, I do accept my role as Tig in the Mansfield SOA Chapter.

Another thing I really dig about this show is the way that they incorporate covers of songs into each episode. The season finale of season 2's finale montage is set to a cover of "Gimme Shelter" originally by The Stones and the way the montage was shot and edited to the music makes it rank in the top 5 of most epic TV moments I have seen in the last 10 years.

This show, for me, is just something I can finally get into that I look forward to catching up and hosting 'Sons' night at the house for all the guys and the old ladies to come over and hang out. I love me some Breaking Bad and Dexter, but the lack of new Breaking Bad in my life over the last year and Dexter's last season flop of a finale has really elevated the excitement over a new show to get into. I am still very dedicated to Dexter and Breaking Bad, and I know the excitement for those will go up as their new seasons approach... but right now I am hardcore SOA.

A shout out to my "Old-Lady" Media Hero-ette who has a love for Tara, Jax's Old Lady. I must say the more she transforms into the role of "Old Lady" of a Son... The more I like her but also the more I realize she could completely kick my ass.J.D.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17085809238707826974noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5847537473725995738.post-85672648902020938892011-02-03T21:49:00.000-08:002011-02-08T05:56:17.232-08:00S.O.A.

Snowpocalypse 2011 has brought many things , A Clean Apartment , Laundry getting done , Lots of boredom, an onset of Cabin Fever and yes quite possibly a new TV show to latch onto.

Over the last couple of years , I've heard from multiple people tell me you gotta try out Sons of Anarchy , its really good. I never did , but then my boy the Media Hero started it , he got hooked and has been talking it up non-stop ever since!! This guy honestly talked it up to the point to where it was kind of annoyying, but in the end i got to hand it to him , He was right.

Sons of Anarchy is set in the fictional town of Charming California and is based around a Motorcycle Gang , there lives and there business. The show's lead character is Jax Teller the Vice Prez of the Sons of Anarchy , younger than most members but Jax sits second in command only to his Step Father Clay Morrow. I cant lie Jax is pretty much the definition of a hard-ass, although sometimes he does look like a complete and total Cholo with his flannel shirts buttoned all the way up. Jax's mother is married to Clay so running the Motorcycle Gang is pretty much family business.
The show also has the great Ron Perlman in it , if you IMDB'd that dude he has been in a crap load of stuff! Katie Sagal is Jax's mom , she is probably best known for being Peg Bundy , not a bad gig to land as one of the lead's of this show , although i guess it doesnt hurt when your married to the show's creator. There are a bunch of other actors in it , that you recognize from Movies over the years. The show's creator is Kurt Sutter , Kurt is a guy who was a writer of and very influential in The Shield another huge hit for FX and quite possibly this blogger's favorite TV show of all time. That was definitely one of the things that hooked me to the show , when I learned Kurt Sutter was the creator , Sons has a very Shield feel in the way it's shot , not to mention the adult nature both in content and violence. FX definitely allows guy's like Sutter to tote that line where it's just barely passible for cable , basically it doesn't say the F Word and doesn't show complete Nudity so it doesn't have to be on HBO. Ill fully admit though if Sons was on HBO it would be way better!!!!!

Considering i watched Season 1 in the span of a bout 15 hours , I'd say I'm pretty much hooked , I will be getting seasons 2 and 3 knocked out shortly and be jonesing for Season 4 to roll around. As of right now it still ranks behind Breaking Bad and Dexter and probably Boardwalk Empire although i still have a couple of episodes to finish season 1 of it. Sons has made a quick jump up to the top of my TV charts and after Dexter's lackluster season I could see it jumping up to No. 2 behind Breaking Bad possibly. who knows what the future holds. And to the Media Hero- Nice Job my friend you did not lead me astray SOA- GOOD TV!Big Dawghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03457664978801539755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5847537473725995738.post-19990650472328273192010-12-01T19:53:00.000-08:002010-12-01T20:38:37.177-08:00DAY 28

Let me first start by Introducing myself , I am not the Media Hero , I am Blake , I am a co-host of the Win Column with the Media Hero. The media hero and I are homeboy's . I felt the need to do some Media blogging and asked my boy MH if i could bring it to his readers and here i am.

I am am big fan of Survivor , I have been on it since its inception 10 years ago and have seen every episode. It is definately one of the reality shows that no matter what sucks me in...........

This season has been season 21 of the show and honestly for the most part has kinda sucked. It was pretty cool to see the Legendary Jimmy Johnson on there but he got booted early.

What it has had is Nayonka, she is a twenty something African American woman and ole Nay Nay is ( i promise im really not trying to be racist here) the epitome of a Stereotypical Loud Ass, annoying, abrasive , Im never wrong because the entire world is against me because im Black, Black women. She could be seen doing such things as Cussing People out , Pushing down a girl who has a prostetic leg, threatening to rip her leg off and hit her with it, stealing food and hiding it, stealing camp utensils and hiding them, You know stuff that really endures you to a group of people you have to sleep in a freaking tent with for 40 days. Honestly just being a complete rude bitch!

Well tonights episode opened up on Day 28 and it started with Nay and some other dumb blond girl saying they wanna quit. So they go to the reward challenge and Nayonka's team wins. Then Jeff Probst blasts Nayonka for wanting to quit , saying your 28 days in there are only 9 people left you have made over halfway , your stupid if you quit.( all true statements) Then he presents the reward winners with a dilema , one of them could stay back and miss the reward and the he would give everyone a tarp and a ten of rice(something they desperately needed due to a brush fire in a previous episode that caused damage to camp). Perfect Chance for Nayonka to once and for all prove she is a complete and total selfish bitch , take one for the team and go out on a high note if indeed she does leave. What does Nay do? Goes on the reward stuffs her face with food , lets someone else make the sacrifice and says something to the effect of " i was never gonna sacrifice , what do i care if they have a tarp or food Im leaving tonight". I mean really Can you be more selfish than that???

So we get to Tribal where Probst , Super Chef Bobby Flay and the Cubes confront the girls, really just Probst , what does Nayonka do???? Quits like the worthless waste of peice of trash she is. Here is a girl who says i dont care what anybody thinks of me and other crap like that. You made it 28 out of 39 days!!!!!!!! You had a 11 days , you were in a power position with an alliance you had a pretty good shot to have a chance at the money , ohh yeah i mean who needs a freaking MILIION BUCKS!!!!!!!! There has been many quitters on this show over the years , some because of family issues , or not wanting to be away from kids , physical injuries or issues . Nobody has quit on day 28! especially not a single young women. Nayonka you are dumbass and im so glad your gone but I wanted you to get voted out. The other Dumb Blond Bimbo quit to , but she was a waste of space also.

Nayonka can suck it!!!

Well I hope i did this blog proud and i appreciate my homeboy media hero giving me the forum.

Peace

J.D.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17085809238707826974noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5847537473725995738.post-3064536238459183702010-12-01T08:00:00.001-08:002010-12-01T08:26:13.965-08:00Dexter and More.So after a few trips to Garland so the fiance could get herself a new whip (yeah I am that hood, I called it a whip), we finally got the opportunity to sit down and watch some Dexter! I can't believe there are only 2 more episodes this season! I guess since this is the first season I have watched along with the everyone else instead of on DVD or BluRay, the end has officially snuck up on me.

Part of me thinks we are seeing the end of Dexter, another part of me feels like we may be building up to a finale that is just as epic as last season's finale. For those who aren't up to date with Season 5.... STOP READING.

During the show this week I found myself with many different feelings going on. Part of me thought this episode was one of the best put out by these writers and directors since I started watching. It definitely ranked up there with a few of the Trinity episodes. As of this moment here, nothing can touch the finale of Season 4 but if these writers bring it... it could be topped. Anyways back to my different emotions... I was stressed, confused, a little annoyed, and even frustrated with this episode. The substories and plot lines are too much it seems. Jordan Chase, Lumen, this new chick connected to the rapist, Liddy and on and on just make me think there is no way Dex gets out of this alive or in prison. But then again, how many times have we thought "there's no way Dex gets out of this". Part of me thinks the lack of announcement of a Season 6 is adding to my frustration. I won't even touch on my feelings about Lumen and Dex getting naked... I need to feel out their response next week before I pass judgment.

As you see the title is "Dexter and More", this is the more part....

I realized last night that Dex ends in two weeks... Breaking Bad doesn't come on for 3 or 4 months... There I call for help... I need TV to watch once this show ends.

Media Hero Fandom HELP ME HELP YOU. I need something to watch and talk about, you can tell what my taste in TV are based on this blog here right? HELP A HERO OUT! SPOILERS IF YOU AREN'T UP TO DATE.Dexter Morgan, everyone's favorite serial killer, is once again all sorts of tangled up in an interesting situation of rape, murder, and lies. That's basically an average Tuesday for the guy. Season 5 is well underway and with the added star power of Julia Stiles, many viewers are almost forgetting about the thriller that was season 4. While season 5 definitely has had it twists and turns, in my opinion, I think it is going to have to take a CRAZY murder of a main character to even remotely compare the greatness of Trinity and Rita. But here is my look into season 5 and more specifically the last few episodes...

I love the relationship that we are seeing growing between Lumen and Dexter, I don't think it is remotely sexual. I don't see them jumping in the sack together this season at but I do see Dex realizing that for once he may not have to be alone in all of this. Granted, I am sure that will bite him in the ass by season's end because thats how the writer's usually work on this show. Dexter shows that towards Lumen when he gives her the blood slide in the last episode after knocking of Lieutenant Douchebag fro Jordan Chase's security. Are they the new power killer couple? ha

LaGuerta is a bitch. Thats all I have to say about that. She is all about herself and totally threw Deb under the bus to cover her ass. She may be my least favorite character on the show other than Quinn, and I think we all know the reason I don't like that tool. But LaGuerta is just annoying and I wouldn't miss her if Dex accidentally killed her.

Quinn needs to be killed. Dexter needs to Doakes that S.O.B. plain and simple. He is a tool, and his new "Matthew Perry" look isn't working for him (Sorry for the drug reference).

This season of Dexter has had one episode thus far that has really left me saying, Oh Crap. Season 4 had me saying that after just about every episode... I think as of today season 5 ranks right after 4 with close competition of Season 1.

Give me something special Dex, I am not going to stop watching you, like I did those selfish fatasses on Biggest Loser... I promise... but I wanna see something CRAZY.J.D.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17085809238707826974noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5847537473725995738.post-22394050034357437302010-11-16T06:27:00.000-08:002010-11-16T07:16:00.203-08:00Big Gulps huh....

Sorry I haven't posted in almost two months, I have been somewhat busy. For the million of readers out there I have been ignoring, you deserve an explanation. I was busy getting engaged to the writer over at Elevated Ebenezer. I have been nodding my head as she plans a wedding and trying to keep my head above water in a pretty stressful year at the school. There have been SO many things to blog about in the entertainment world and I have found myself wanting to sit down and write but I haven't had the energy or the time. BUT I AM BACK!

So whats new with your media hero? I am still watching my main set of shows, and I have added one or two shows to the mix as well. Dexter is in the middle of yet another intense season and I will probably have to dedicate an entire post to where my head is with that show. So be on the look out for that.

The last two months have been sports crazy for me. The Burleson Bulls were playing for the championship, the Cowboys were falling off the face of the Earth, the Mavs are BACK, and of course the Texas Rangers basically shocked the world with a memorable run into the World Series. I was blessed enough to get to see Game 6 of the ALCS that sent the Rangers to the World Series as well as Game 3 of the World Series with my parents and my future father in law. All these sports things that were going on had me saying on a daily basis "I wish I had somewhere to talk about this sports happiness". One rough day at work I decided that I wanted to try my hand at this internet podcasting phenomenon. So I tweeted my interest and immediately heard from a buddy who was interested and now 5 weeks later we are actually gaining a little popularity. Check us out, The Win Column . We mainly talk DFW sports with a splash of the national coverage.

So, moving on... In entertainment the new season of shows is in full effect and I am gonna do a quick hit on a few shows that I have stuck with through the years. This is Media Hero right, I can't self promote my podcast TOOO much the whole....

1. The Biggest Loser - WORST cast yet, nobody left on the show is worth watching except maybe Ada or whatever her name is. All that is left is some spoiled fat people that aren't trying to change their life, they are just trying to play the game. I am all for game playing on shows like Survivor or Big Brother, but a life changing show it's annoying. Frado, Brandon, and all the others on this show, I know this is a little harsh but I hope you relapse into being fat harder than a 15 year crack addict relapses into drugs.

2. The Walking Dead - May be the next biggest show out there. Finally we are shifting past this
crap vampire phase and heading into something alittle more believable. ZOMBIES! /sarcasm. This show is pretty damn awesome. The make up and the effects are very believable and the story line is one that differs from other zombie flicks out there. My only beef with this show and AMC is why are there only 6 episodes planned for this season??? That isn't enough to get the full feel for this series. Also, will you still sell the Blu-Ray for 70 bucks for the first season like they did with Breaking Bad that only had like 7 episodes?

3. I will preface this next quick hit with a NO HOMO. But One Tree Hill officially should be cancelled. It sucks now, but I have watched it so long that I can't quit on it. My viewing of this show goes back to college and I struggle to admit that I do watch it. I have a gut feeling that I will get made fun for this on the Win Column at some point but oh well. Cancel the show, make this season the last one. Not even the pure hottness of Sophia Bush can save this show.

4. Black Ops - Everything I worried about with this new game has been proven wrong. Treyarch you did your thing. I hated your last Call of Duty and almost didn't buy this one but damn I am glad I did. Even the fiance somewhat enjoys it, when I let her wear the headphones and talk trash. The annoying thing with this game will shortly be the Remote Control Car kill streak. EVERYONE is using them and as cool as they were a week ago... they are not so cool anymore. The maps are challenging, the campaign is sick, and there are very few glitches in the game so far which is shocking for a game that hasn't issued an update yet. He came roaring back in a season premiere that topped the charts for Showtime. It was the biggest ratings Showtime had received on a season premiere in like 15 years. This premiere, though, was something out of the norm for our friend Dexter. There was no initial chase of a new victim, there was no scheming and following like we have learned to love. For the first time ever we finally see Dex truly struggle with himself and what he is. We have heard Dex say he is a bad person numerous times in the past but never to the level of this last Sunday.

Dexter's behaviors in this episode were abnormal and honestly more 'scary' than I have ever seen him. He, for the first time, feels guilt over a murder. Granted he still feels no real guilt over any murder he has committed but he feels responsible for the murder of Rita. He should have killed Trinity the first time he had the opportunity. The absence of Harry for most of the episode, truly gives Dexter a feeling of being all alone. The only time we see Harry is when Dexter takes out the Redneck in what could possibly the nastiest bathroom in America. That was quite possibly my favorite scene of the whole movie, seeing Dexter finally just let loose and get his aggression, anger and even a little remorse out on that dude's face was AWESOME. This may be strangely demented on my part but I hope that this is the picture of the Dark Passenger this season. Just out for blood on anyone that has done wrong.

Moving on to my prediction for the season, Quinn (who looks frighteningly like Matthew Perry during his drug run on friends) will die. He and Deb are striking up this awkward sexual relationship, all the while Quinn is out searching for clues to lead to Dexter. Yeah I have said it in a previous post I know but dude is dead. Plain and Simple. Dead. I think Aster and Cody are going to start to question Dex more than ever but in the long run the kids and Dexter will be closer than ever over the tragedy of Rita's death.

This season is going to be an interesting one, mainly because of the whole Kyle Butler twist in the plot. I am hoping that this isn't the end of our friend Dexter, but I have trouble figuring out how he can escape this ordeal. Eventually, Dexter will either be killed, caught, or eliminated on his own... but please let it be like 3 or 4 years from now....J.D.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17085809238707826974noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5847537473725995738.post-72215650551629790852010-09-29T05:47:00.000-07:002010-09-29T06:35:11.043-07:00Lone Star Canned Already?If you can't tell from the few posts I have posted here on Media Hero, I am not really into many shows that show up on your network stations. Lie to Me is a decent show but the lack of a real running story kills me, I am a fan of the dramatic story lines that carry on from week to week like that of Breaking Bad or Dexter. Every week you are left waiting for the next weeks episode to start. Most shows on network television don't do that for me, and the ones that try I just do not get into (Lost, 24). Every new television season I ask for input from my 'media friends' on new shows that they are hearing about and then I check them out if they sound interesting to me. A guy I work with suggested I check out Lonestar, a show about a Texas con-man, that is shot right here in Dallas and all over the state. So, I set the DVR, and I decided late Saturday to get the pilot out of the way before I set the rest of the season up to record.

This show was amazing. The pilot did exactly what a good episode of Dexter or BB would do, it left me waiting for Monday night's episode 2. Bob Allen, a conman who specializes in ripping people off with oil drilling leases and mineral right contracts, leads two lives with two women and two different yet similar money making schemes. He is married to one women in Houston and by the end of episode one is running off to Vegas to marry a lady from Midland. The plot twists and turns are all centered around his father in law's, played by the great Jon Voight, oil company "Thatcher Inc." and Bob's response to a job he is offered there. Long story short, he is going to try to rip off one of the largest oil companies in Texas. The first two episodes remind me of how I felt after two episodes of Breaking Bad. I still had no real clue of what was going on but I definitely wanted to keep watching to see what would happen.

Then the hammer came down yesterday, Fox has officially canceled 'Lone Star". Fox made the mistake of putting a first season show up against the powerful Monday night line up. In my opinion, they also dropped the ball on the advertising of this show. The only reason I knew about it was because of a friend telling me. They need to take hint from the people over at AMC and get the word out. AMC visually raped people's faces with their new show Rubicon. Every commercial break it was Rubicon and the Shake Weight. While Rubicon is a decent show that fills my time when nothing else is on, it is not the powerful show AMC is used to running out there like BB or Mad Men. It still got ratings though.

My hope for 'Lone Star' is that we aren't done seeing it, I hope the producers reorganize and pitch the idea to a cable network and we see it come back on TNT or AMC or anywhere. The show had potential to have a few good seasons, because lets be honest eventually the story would crash and burn because you can only do so much to keep the two lives separate.

My pick for next show dead is "No Ordinary Family" or whatever it is called, that just looks dumb and I don't think that the star power of Rita and the dude from 'The Shield' can save that crap idea for a show.J.D.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17085809238707826974noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5847537473725995738.post-69827059413605391992010-09-10T10:21:00.001-07:002010-09-29T06:37:59.551-07:00Coming Soon....So, this time of year for the average guy is all about football, beer and brats. This guy is more than excited about the Cowboys, fantasy football and tailgating but I am more excited about five huge movie debuts, new series debuts and even a video game or two. Its gonna be a great fall season!

1. Dexter Season 5

So after the speed dating version of season 4, I was not happy that I had to wait 4 months to see how the life changing event left our friend. My speed dating attack of Dexter Season 4 was a 2 week nightly binged with Caty so I could finally be all caught up. Once the finale hit and Caty quit crying, we both wanted to jump straight into season 5 and see what happened. Dexter is going to a completely different character this upcoming season. Dealing with being a single father, a serial killer, and dealing with the fact that he caused the most traumatic event of his children life. My gut tells me that this season is it for the loveable Dexter. I just do not see how he can get himself out of this mess. We have seen him weasel his way out some complex situations but nothing like this! Dexter is the serial killer we love to support, kinda like the drug dealing badass that is Walt on Breaking Bad. To borrow an overused and misinterpreted saying of my high school students... this season is going to be uber epic.

2. Call of Duty - Black Ops

I know I am almost 30 and all that but I still love me some video games. It's strange but its like an amazing stress reliever for me after a frustrating day at work or a bad baseball game. I just want to get online and either shoot fake terrorist or dominate some 16 year old acne ridden punk in Madden. Yeah I said it, it makes this almost old guy feel good to whoop up on teenagers in video games! This Black Ops game is expected to be the biggest release of the year. Its the follow up to Modern Warfare 2. Although it is produced by a different gaming developer, and their releases have been less than appealing in the past, I still plan on purchasing this game and giving it a run through the old xbox. I will play with my 40-something year old brother, which his addiction to this game is WAY more embarrassing than my addiction, and his police buddies. We will lose to the little youngins, we will beat them sometimes, but overall we will just escape into the virtual world for an hour or two a night to relax from a crazy day.

3. The City

When we went and saw Inception, which I swear I will eventually give my review for (Kinda want to see it again), there was an action packed trailer for a new flick coming out that had me all sorts of excited. Then I saw who is directing it and I got nervous. Ben Affleck is directing himself again in a heist movie, but then I remember that Affleck directed Gone Baby Gone, which is in my top 5 all time movies. So I am expected big things out of this movie. Maybe my expectations are going to be to high, but I don't care. The trailer showed a few plot twists already and everything I am hopes it isn't going to fall into the category of the "trailer showed all the good parts" type of film. Jeremy Renner is also in this movie and after his performance in "The Hurt Locker", I have a man crush on him. He is an outstanding up and coming actor. This movie is going to be SICK...... I hope!

4. Mavs Kickoff New Season

Yeah so what if I am letting my sports side jump on the screen again here at MH. The Dallas Mavs are my team in the NBA, and other than baseball, basketball is my game. I enjoy a good football game don't get me wrong but I would rather sit through 3 and a half hours of baseball or a basketball game ANYDAY. The critics say the Mavs got worse but standing still in free agency, but me I see it as just more time for what looked to the best team in the NBA for a month or so to gel in the off season. We shall see, either way, if they go 82-0 or 10-72, I am still going to watch and still cheer. So hurry up Basketball season

5. Texas Rangers Playoff Baseball

Do you know how long it has been since the Rangers have played playoff baseball? Do you know how long it has been since they won a series in the playoffs? Both answers are very depressing in my opinion... BUT the night that the Rangers dumped champagne on each other in honor of their divisional championship, the new owner Chuck "Baseball Jesus" Greenberg stated this: "This is what success looks like, and be ready to see this often Rangers fans". I am geeked up that the new owners are so in touch with their fanbase. It's Time! Rangers Baseball! Basketball has always been one of my favorite sports but by far my passion has always been baseball. ESPN, or as we call it The Network, is celebrating their 30th anniversary with a documentary series entitled 30 for 30. This week they finally returned to covering stories that are relevant to my sports love. They covered Michael Jordan's transition from basketball to minor league baseball. They looked at how Michael responded to the murder of his father and the transition from jumbo jets to riding the charter bus with a minor league baseball team. I saw the promo for this episode of 30 for 30 and immediately set the DVR to record.

Watching the first 20 minutes of this I seriously found myself a little upset with Jordan for making this attempt. By the way I am typing this as I watch the show so if my opinion changes dramatically don't jump on me. I have no clue what to expect. But anyways, I found myself very upset with Jordan. Some people try their entire lives just to make a name for themselves in baseball, a name that may make a kid get excited to get their baseball card. Jordan tried to show up and get that without any outside struggles or hardships. It looked like a huge publicity stunt by the White Sox and a major stretch for Jordan himself. Now I realize he says that his family issued the challenge to him to become a baseball player and I respect that but this whole circus they keep showing in this video is pretty insane.

The camerawork and editing in this documentary are very impressive, but the story so far is NOTHING new that hasn't been talked about. They were hyping this thing up to be the "insider" into Jordan's real days in Baseball. Not so much, ESPN hits on his father's murder, then his gambling problem, and then the relationship between the gambling and his father's murder. ALL things that have been talked about for years. Please give me something in depth here.

The second half of the documentary is more centered on the baseball 'career' of Jordan. I do like the mix of interview and authentic footage from back in the day but was it necessary to do interview the old real estate lady that got him his house in Birmingham? She makes people in that town look like country idiots. I will say that the interviews of his former teammates was very cool hearing about how they never made the majors but they felt like big leaguers when he was around.

My overall impression of this documentary was somewhat positive. I expected ALOT more from this but I definitely enjoyed it for the most part. For someone who has always played baseball and watched it, this was automatically interesting. Jordan's baseball career was insanely short but he did chase a dream/request of his murdered father. I applaud that dedication to his father but I also see it as somewhat of a media stunt just to keep his name in lights for a year or two until his big comeback in the NBA. Thats where Jordan belonged. In the NBA, dunking on people... not on a bus or wearing baseball pants. This may not be the usual Media Hero post but this is definitely a big entertainment event I looked forward to, if you don't wanna read this... not gonna hurt my feelings.J.D.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17085809238707826974noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5847537473725995738.post-69002633203764267352010-08-05T23:34:00.000-07:002010-08-08T09:17:42.513-07:00Endless Loop - The Top 3 iTunes play for this weekAs I mentioned in the first post of this blog a few weeks back, I have a crazy taste in music. The playlist I play to work out with may range from the before mentioned Bob Schneider to Jason Aldean to Jay-Z. So I figured why not make a weekly (hopefully) post of the my top 5 songs in my iTunes that week. I will call it endless loop because they are probably some of the only songs I am listening to this week. These songs may not be new, popular, or even good but they are definitely the most listened to songs of the week. Some may be songs I hear on the radio, some may be songs I am sick of because I have heard them 1000 times while editing videos for the school or church. So here we go... in NO particular order.

1. Eli Young Band - Guinevere

This song is such a breathe of fresh air from a band I have been listening to for 7 or 8 years. they are from the Denton area, UNT Grads (not sure if they finished but we claim them) and used to drink at the bar I bartended at so I claim to know them. Anyways after hearing them release song after song on albums for the last 6 years that were songs they played in and around Denton, their big fans had to be tired of hearing When It Rains and Oklahoma Girl. This new album is the first of theirs where I didn't know a single song before the drop date, and this song here is by far the best one of the CD. It takes me back to their old emotional hits like Everything is You and Highways and Broken Hearts. Looking forward to catching them next time they come in town.

2. Incubus - Wish You Were Here

So a few weeks ago, while really diving into my dirty ass house, I decided I needed to make a new upbeat playlist to motivate me to do some DEEP cleaning... You can ask the chick over at Elevated Ebenezer she can attest to just how out of control my house had gotten. Back on topic, I was trying to remember my old school workout playlist I had on my old iPod and macbook that I got rid of and I realized I never reloaded all of my Incubus music I had worked so hard to download. Well, instead of cleaning for an hour or two, I downloaded as much Incubus as I could and loaded up a playlist. I used to never really get into this particular song, but this go around I love it. It's just a song I can jam to I guess. Needless to say I got a lot of cleaning done that day. Glancing around this room right now, its about time to rock out again!

3. Brandon Rhyder - Freeze Frame Time

This song was introduced to me in a clutch moment by a co-worker. We had a slideshow to show for another co-workers retirement party and the audio bailed on us during the burn to DVD. We were pretty screwed, but one guy stepped up with some audio cables and this song and saved the party. This song is beautiful. The lyrics are amazing. Rhyder needs to be more popular than he is. I bet I listen to this song at least once or twice a day. It makes me think of everything in my past ranging from sitting on the porch of my house in Virginia with my mom and dad all the way to the newest memories that I wish I could get stuck in that just happen in Boston with my dad and brother... it also makes me think of some other memories that are on the way... If I get a new guitar, I can honestly say this is at the VERY top of the list of songs to learn to play... Please if you skip the rest of the links on this page take some time and listen to this one. It is simply a beautiful song.

So there you go, those are the top 3 songs on my iTunes this week... maybe down the road I can push this up to 5 songs a week like a normal person would but really, who cares! Tell your friends about me. I am pretty cool

JDJ.D.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17085809238707826974noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5847537473725995738.post-29921424712020660372010-08-03T19:11:00.000-07:002010-08-03T20:17:50.757-07:00Bob Schneider - HOB Dallas July 31stSo for the first time in probably 3 or 4 years I ventured out to see Bob Schneider play a live set. The back story on my addiction to Bob Schneider goes back to my college roommate Cody. He was a rabid fan of Bob and he started playing his music around the apartment and I started to like him. Once I saw him live the first time at RBar in Denton, it was ON! I have driven to Austin once or twice to see him, I have been to HOB at least 4 times to see him and I have seen him in 5 or 6 other venues. His shows are always upbeat, random and fun. So I decided to take the girlfriend out and introduce her to the greatness of Bob Live. We were joined by 2 good friends from the church.

So after some great food and a REALLY spicy margarita at the Iron Cactus, we walked over to HOB and settled in on the front row railing of general admission. Quiet Company took the stage as the secondary opening band. The first guy I can't remember his name, obviously he was memorable. Quiet Company was like a cool mix of Maroon 5 and Kings of Leon in my opinion. I rarely pay attention to the opening acts at concerts like this, but these dudes ripped the stage up. I can't find these guys on the internet anywhere. Their stage presence was off the charts. I am a new fan.... if I can find them anywhere. Not on iTunes either, sucks.

So once they got the stage set up, Bob took the stage with authority. I forgot my camera so please enjoy these wonderful iPhone pics. My bad. Mr. Bob rocked a lot of newer stuff that I wasn't 100% familiar with but it was definitely needs to be put into the rotation on the iPod. The crowd was very interesting and different from most of the crowds I am used to at a Schneider show. The concerts I frequented of his back in college were full of drunk college students, and a few of his biggest fans. This concert was pretty close to Douche Central. Alot of 30 thousand dollar millionaires and fake looking women. From the beginning I was wondering just how involved the crowd would get in this concert. It definitely wasn't your usual raucous Bob crowd but ah well. Bob did his thing, he brought his 'A' game. He brought a new addition I hadn't seen before into this concert. He had a hat one at the beginning of the show, just a normal looking top hat. Whenever he wanted to do a sing a long with the crowd, he would put on a PIRATE hat. Yes a PIRATE hat. It was hilarious. Like I mentioned earlier, I heard quite a few new songs I hadn't heard but the best new song of the night was definitely the Pants Song. Bob jumped back into the rap game on this one and brought the house down. '40 dogs', his current radio release, of course, brought the crowd alive and then his usual set closing rendition of 'Tarantula' was a festive as ever.

This concert from my personal standpoint wasn't the best one of his I have been to, but it definitely was not the worst. There is no concert that can top that first one at RBar in Denton, Texas. We were there with Bruce Hughes', Bob's bass player, daughter... did that compute? Anyways, we were front row and center, and Bob and Bruce both were interacting with our group the entire concert. This concert at HOB was very upbeat and fun but it definitely was missing that hardcore college feel of old. Overall, it was well worth the cost of tickets and the 3 miles we walked through downtown Dallas to get to dinner and then to HOB. Next concert is looking to be Kings of Leon in September!J.D.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17085809238707826974noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5847537473725995738.post-52110084951393033832010-07-25T22:01:00.001-07:002010-07-25T23:04:58.660-07:00"Dextergasm?"So Comic-Con is going on this weekend and of course I was glued to the website looking for updates on my shows while listening for the any heads up of great new shows to come. Day one of Comic-Con did not disappoint with the Dexter panel taking the stage to discuss Season 5 coming up in September. Jennifer Carpenter joined her cancer-free husband Michael C Hall (which that marriage still trips me out alittle, they are brother and sister! ha) and some of the big wigs on the show to talk up this season, field questions from fans, and also premiere the big trailer for Season 5.

First and foremost, lets talk about this trailer. If you have not seen the conclusion of season 4 now is the time to go and watch it and NOT read any further. As we Dexterholics know, Season 5 ended with a huge life changing event. The murder of Rita by Trinity really sent the Dexter world into a whirlwind. Things were finally shaping up for Dexter to have a "normal" family life with his beautiful wife and cute little fat baby, and this happens. I have quite a few ideas for this next season. Seeing the trailer (which I will post at the end of the post) really got my head spinning on a few of the ideas I had. Then I read the full transcript of the Comic-Con Panel and I felt like a Media God because one of the big wigs said something directly to one of my thoughts I was having. Ok here we go...

#1 - The effect of this on Dexter - The trailer makes it very obvious that Dexter will kill again this season when they show him talking to to Harry and telling him how killing makes him a better father. What would the show be like without Dex killing bad guys.... refer to season 2, I swear I know he did kill people but I can't recall a single one other than Doakes. Every other season I can name multiple victims. Anyways, here's my thoughts on the effect on Dexter. He became the person he is because of a traumatic event in his childhood that for the longest time he blocked out. What kind of effect will this event which is fresh and vivid in his mind have on him this go round?

"We wanted to process this huge event that's almost another origin story," said Johannessen. "This is an adult origin story in a way. This is not something that happened to him when he was three years old. We don't continue the facts of season four for very long, but this set of events he brought on himself very much permeate season five."

I truly believe we are going to see a completely different "Dark Passenger". A very angry, raw, and brutal Dexter. I have a feeling that the first kill after the murder will be more of an impulse kill and could potentially violate the code. The final scene of the trailer shows Dex going ballistic and blood is everywhere, while you don't see the victim, it is obviously a very emotional moment for him. The voice over the shot says "Normally having a target would make me feel good, but now it means nothing." Dexter is not only going to battle bad guys this season he biggest enemy may be himself. If I was writing this series and wanted to really get it rolling quick, Dex makes an impulse kill and draws attention to himself in a very unwanted/unneeded manner. Personally, I like the 'nervous' Dexter, I enjoy when he is constantly worrying about the fuzz.

#2 - The trailer also shows Quinn on the case and suspecting Dexter is involved.... I am assuming that Quinn didn't get the memo about Doakes doing the same thing a few seasons back. Its been nice knowing you dude, and congrats on getting it on with a murderer's psycho daughter, but you are as good as dead bro.

#3 - Dexter and Harrison - Probably the most heart-breaking moment in the trailer was Dexter holding little Harrison and saying to him "I am the reason your mother is dead, you are going to hate me someday". Dexter is a good dad in my opinion...when he is there. Its weird to say that about a serial killer but still he was in a perfect place before this. Does this event launch Harrison into a similar pathway as Dexter? Obviously, the writers are mimicking Dexter's early life experience here. Granted the show would either have to do a 'fast forward' for season 6 or be around for like 7 to 10 more years (I would probably be ok with it) but I would love the opportunity to hear Dexter talk to Harrison (Lil' Harry) about the code and everything that he was taught. Whats your take on the Harrison and Dexter relationship of this season? Granted it can't be too complex, the kid is like 6 months old, but it does have a very complex possibility. Brilliant Writing.

This season has so many potential subplots and different directions it could go, that I am just ready for the dang thing to start. I upgraded the Uverse to get Showtime and Season 5 will be the first season I don't watch on DVD. This is the first show I can honestly say I am completely and 100% addicted to. I am not sure how I will handle not being able to see the next episode immediately. It feels like I am 14 again and I am waiting for Joey to choose between Dawson and Pacey. Yes I did just make a Dawson's Creek reference, and don't act like you weren't watching also.

Leave me your thoughts on what is coming up. I am truly interested in hearing from the millions of fans of the Media Hero. I am sure in the weeks and months leading up to the big premiere, I will revisit this entry and add to it and get deeper into my thoughts on what could/should happen. But I won't keep you waiting anymore, here is the Dexter Season 5 Trailer that premiered this weekend at Comic-Con 2010.
